Choose an NVR by comparing its incoming bandwidth, outgoing bandwidth, decoding capacity and channel support with the complete camera configuration. Add practical headroom for changing scenes, simultaneous viewing and later system changes. Storage capacity must be calculated separately.
A camera is directly exposed when an outside network can reach its camera or recorder service through a publicly routed address. Remote viewing through a managed cloud relay or private tunnel does not, by itself, show that the device accepts direct inbound Internet connections.
Plan the camera network around shared switches, uplinks, power sources and recording paths so each likely fault affects only a defined part of the system.
