Trace a persistent alarm tamper fault by identifying the reported circuit, checking every cover and tamper switch on it, inspecting its connections and wiring, then resetting and verifying the alarm control panel only after the physical fault has been corrected.
Test the camera power supply while the camera is operating. Compare DC voltage at the supply output and at the camera end of the power cable, including during startup and infrared activation. Then substitute a compatible known-good supply or a short known-good cable to isolate the adapter, wiring, connector or camera as the failing component.
A security camera image usually turns pink or purple because infrared light is reaching the image sensor during colour mode. The usual cause is an infrared cut filter that is stuck, interrupted during movement or controlled incorrectly. Settings and unstable power can produce similar symptoms, so test daylight, darkness, live view and recordings before deciding that the camera needs service.
After a power surge, stop if you find heat, smoke, burnt smells or damaged power equipment. Otherwise, restore power and network devices in dependency order. A camera can look online while its video is frozen because the status connection is still working but the stream is failing somewhere between the camera, power path, network, recorder and app. Compare live local video, remote viewing and playback before restarting equipment or changing settings.
Before factory-resetting security equipment, save the configuration and critical recordings separately. Record administrator access, user permissions, network details, camera locations, recording rules, alarm zones and labelled wiring. Finish with a written restoration order and a checklist for testing every camera, detector, notification and remote connection.
When a security camera fails only at night, check the day-night changeover, power under infrared load, nearby reflections, moisture, network connection and recording path in a controlled sequence.
After renovation or painting, visually inspect and carefully clean every security camera, then test recording playback, motion detectors, door and window contacts, alerts and siren behaviour. Check the system room by room, document every fault, arrange repairs where needed and repeat the full test before relying on it again.
A camera usually stays black and white because too little visible light reaches its sensor, night mode is forced in the settings, the power supply is unstable, or the infrared cut filter cannot return to its daytime position. Check the actual light at the camera, review day-night settings and test the power path before treating it as a camera failure.
A beeping CCTV recorder is reporting a system condition, not identifying the fault. First confirm that footage is being saved. Then read the displayed warning and system log before checking storage, camera connections, network status, power and ventilation. Do not mute the sound until you understand its cause.
You can usually keep existing cameras if the replacement recorder supports their technology, connection type, video format, resolution and required features. Check power, credentials, channel capacity and cabling as well. Basic video compatibility does not always preserve audio, motion detection or remote functions.
